For more than 30 years, the SPCA/HS has counted on volunteers to help protect animals in our community.

    You must be over 18 to volunteer with the PGSPCA. If you are between 14 and 18, you may volunteer with P.G. Animal Management. Please visit their webpage to get information about volunteering.

  • A Few Things to Remember

    The PGSPCA does not have a central office or operate a shelter. We are not part of the county government or affiliated with the Prince George's County Animal Shelter. You must be 18 or older to volunteer with us. We currently have no opportunities for youth participation.

  • Volunteer Terms & Conditions

    By signing below, I hereby accept a position as a volunteer for the SPCA/Humane Society of Prince George’s County, MD (“PGSPCA”), upon the following terms, conditions, and understandings: Terms and Conditions My services to the PGSPCA are provided strictly in a voluntary capacity as a Volunteer, and without any express or implied promise of salary, compensation or other payment of any kind whatsoever. My services are furnished without any employment-type benefits, including employment insurance programs, worker’s compensation accrual in any form, vacation, sick leave, retirement benefits, or indemnification for liability. I agree to familiarize myself, and comply, with PGSPCA policies and procedures applicable to Volunteers. I agree to review the PGSPCA Volunteer Handbook within one (1) week of signing this agreement. I fully understand that the PGSPCA expects high standards of moral and ethical treatment of the animals under its care. I agree to adhere strictly to these standards in my capacity as a Volunteer. I understand that the PGSPCA, without notice or hearing, may terminate my services as a Volunteer at any time, with or without reason. Liability Release I understand that the handling of animals and other Volunteer activities on behalf of the PGSPCA may place me in a potentially hazardous situation and could result in physical injury/illness to me or damage my personal property. On behalf of myself, and my heirs, personal representatives, successors, and assigns, I hereby release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless the PGSPCA and its Directors, Officers, Employees and Agents from any and all claims, causes of action, and demands of any nature, whether known or unknown, arising out of or in connection with my Volunteer activities on behalf of the PGSPCA. Understanding that public relations are an important part of a Volunteer’s activities on behalf of the PGSPCA, I hereby authorize the PGSPCA to use any photographs of me in its possession for public relations purposes, without compensation for said use. I understand that should I discontinue my status as Volunteer with the PGSPCA, I will no longer hold rights to any documents created in the name of, or for, the PGSPCA. This includes copyrights, trademarks, and all other proprietary interest I might have in PGSPCA property. I understand that the personal information of clients and customers is collected for specific program purposes only (pet adoption, case resolution, spay/neuter services, etc.), and that I cannot retain, share, or use that information in any way other than its intended purpose. I understand that the PGSPCA administers all volunteer activities as dictated by the needs of the organization; accordingly, activities and assignments may change or be terminated at any time.
